In Defence of Criticism

Criticism is not an adjunct to creative writing, but an independent genre of thought. Criticism must be centred on the work, and read the work in detail is a core competency for effective criticism. The criticism is polemical and reflective. The aesthetic perspective remains an effective counterweight to the current pan-cultural tendencies in literary criticism, helping to discover the aesthetic qualities of literary discourse and the cultural potentials that lies behind them.
