Conservation in Africa: what can history teach us?

(Abstract)

Sandra Swart

The conservation in the African context is concerned with wildlife and their protection. It is a highly controversial topic in terms of both politics and society. I will address the relations between baboons and human, two primates, through the traditional and new narratives about conservation, and offer specimen for the studies of environmental history concerning the relations between human and animals. It demonstrates that the experiences in history would be beneficial to the activities of conservation in the Anthropocene, and help us to understand the persistent conflicts between human and wildlife.
