Over the past forty-plus years, social epistemology research has made great strides in both domestic and international academic circles. In this area, the division between “normativity” and “analyticity” features has led to two research pathways in the world, each deducing different social dimensions of knowledge. Centered on fundamental definition of social awareness, the research on social epistemology in China has exhibited a distinct epochal character that two main research trajectories of “understanding society” and “analyzing knowledge” jointly steer the research field. A new paradigm of “data knowledge” creation, stemmed from the integration of social epistemology with cognitive science, is expected to emerge as a major mode of knowledge production. Investigating scientific knowledge production and understanding the generation of public knowledge within the framework of digital-intelligent practice will thus turn into primary tasks and challenges for future social epistemology research.
