Practical Consciousness and the Sociological Study of Chinese-Style Modernization

Practical consciousness is a sociological expression of the Marxist view of practice; it is a type of summing up, making known and emphasizing based on research and reflection on the development of Chinese sociology, and a useful complement to the concepts of cultural and theoretical consciousness. To strengthen the practical consciousness today, Chinese sociologists must confront the dramatic changes in the practice of Chinese society, must scientifically analyze and sum up the path of Chinese modernization, must create a body of knowledge that has both Chinese characteristics and universal significance, and must expand the international influence of Chinese sociology while at the same time contributing to the development of sociology worldwide. In the new stage of the practice of building a modern socialist country in a comprehensive way, Chinese sociologists should make use of the comparative advantages of their discipline, conduct in-depth research revolving around the practice of major sociological issues, contribute to the disciplinary wisdom of sociology, and in the process, continuously optimize disciplinary construction practice, promote high-quality disciplinary development and enhance the comprehensive ability of Chinese sociology to continuously serve and support the practice of Chinese modernization.
