(Abstract)

Duan Jianjun

In contemporary China, Lu Yao was the pioneer of using novels to explore the value and significance of life in the area of intersection. A series of his works with great influence took the intersection area in the era of urban-rural disparity as the typical background, and the strivers in this area as the protagonists. Lu Yao focused on describing the process of the protagonist’s identity crisis in the intersection, making arduous exploration and gaining dignity and recognition in the struggle, which showed the young people’s confusion, anxiety and yearning under the tension between the past and the future, the traditional and the modern. Lu Yao’s exploration of realism endowed his novels with a profound philosophy of life and was an important reference for novels of later times.
