Rewriting Disciplinary History and Reconnecting the History: In Search of an Autonomous Western Sociology (Abstract)

He Yijin

Sociology in non-Western areas have proposed many projects of pursuing an autonomous discipline. However, this project is not exclusive to non-Western sociologies, western sociology in its historical trajectory also attempted to establish its unique academic tradition and consolidate the disciplinary identity which implies an alternative disciplinary autonomy. In the recent developments, American sociology pursues its own tradition by re-writing disciplinary history. European sociology reinterprets and reconstructs Europe to transcend its traditional theoretical barriers. These new trends provide a valuable reference for Chinese sociology and its systematic constructions.
