Rational Observation on the Overseas Transmission of Chinese Internet Literature

(Abstract)

Chen Dingjia

With the aid of powerful oversea promotion, Chinese internet literature has been highly praised as one of the “four miracles” in contemporary mass culture, the other three being Hollywood movies, Japanese cartoons, and Korean TV operas. Nonetheless, it also needs to point out the shortcomings and lacks lurking in the fever of its overseas transmission, especially in terms of content choices, resources optimization, team training, copyright protection, etc. Therefore, a critical reflection on the challenges and crises is necessary. The urgent task is to draw lessons from the “outgoing project of Chinese culture” and to strengthen the self-consciousness of the oversea transmission of Chinese internet literature. It is also important to activate the potentials of Chinese language, culture and technical development in order to promote the omnidirectional and long-term output of Chinese network literature. In addition, more efforts should be devoted to the establishment of a comprehensive and multi-media brand through integrating offline publication, film adaption, cartoon production and game development. In conclusion, it is worthy to ask how to sustain the good trend of the oversea expansion of Chinese internet literature other than stopping over the fever.
