US-China Exchange Foundation and CAP: make major power relations more constructive
The new model of major power relations is based on a more positive pattern of diplomacy, said a report jointly released by the US-China Exchange Foundation and the Center for American Progress (CAP) on February 20. According to the report, China and the U.S. need to discuss bilateral relations in a broad global context.
The report, U.S.-China Relations: Toward a New Model of Major Power Relations, divides new models of major power relation into three types, international, regional and bilateral. At the international level, the report stresses the importance of China and the U.S. achieving agreement on marine problems and cyber space. At a regional level, it advises that the two foster mutual trust through joint dialogues with India, Japan and other nations in the Asia-Pacific region. It calls for overall enhancement of cooperation at the bilateral level.
Cui Tiankai, the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. iterated that both sides having a constructive attitude is the key to building a new model of major power relations between China and the U.S. He further stated the importance of taking a constructive attitude toward areas of divergence and sensitive issues.
