Influenced by Hunan embroidery masters, many amateurs join training classes to learn profession skills of Hunan embroidery.

Hunan embroidery, as a form of national intangible cultural heritage, has a history of thousands of years. The pioneers of Hunan embroidery exerted great efforts and devoted themselves to the preservation and development of this exquisite technique, attaching cultural and artistic elements to the historical context of Hunan embroidery. In recent years, many Hunan embroidery masters and professionals have integrated modern elements with traditional embroidery, which has helped the art of Hunan embroidery fit into people’s daily lives.

Liu Jianxin: craftsmanship spirit
Liu Jianxin is a Chinese arts and crafts master and national intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Hunan embroidery. In her 50 years of crafting Hunan embroidery, Liu created several excellent works and won national prizes in the field of arts and crafts. Her exquisite works have been dubbed “magical art.”

In 1996, Liu established a company called the Embroidery Worship of Hunan Women and began training professional embroidery talents. Several years ago, Liu persuaded her daughter, Liu Ya, who used to work in Beijing, to give up her high-paying job and return to Hunan to help to expand the family embroidery business. In 2015, her daughter created a series of innovative embroidery products based on the philosophy of aesthetic principles, including embroidered fans and scarfs.

Huang Weibo, Yang Jing: innovative ideas
Founders of Huangyang Hunan Embroidery, Huang Weibo and Yang Jing have been engaged in this field for 17 years. They were both born in literary families in the 1970s. They entered into the Hunan embroidery business by chance, but their literary backgrounds greatly contributed to the development of their business.

They probed into studying the history of Hunan embroidery and various styles of famous foreign and domestic paintings to explore different aesthetic and artistic ideas. They broke traditional themes of Hunan embroidery, such as animals and flowers, and instead absorbed the themes of many famous paintings, creating many decorative embroidered works and satisfying the household demands for decoration. In addition, they expanded into the online sector to sell innovative products of Hunan embroidery on Taobao.
