Co-hosted by the Chinese Social Sciences Research Evaluation Center under Nanjing University and the Nanjing University Press, the second professional seminar on the Chinese Academic Books Citation Index was held in Nanjing on Jan. 24. The first batch of books has been selected, and it covers 11 disciplines, including Marxism, philosophy and religion.

It is predicted that the accomplishments of the Chinese Academic Books Citation Index will be released for the first time in June this year.

The index has examined all the data of the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI), more than 10 years of rankings of books cited in papers that were published in major journals and more than 20 years of awards for books on humanities and social sciences at the national, ministerial and provincial levels. Moreover, prominent Chinese scholars have been hired to form a committee of experts for each discipline and no fewer than 100 professors will make online reviews for each discipline.

Zhang Yibin, secretary of the party committee at Nanjing University, said that by compiling the data of newly selected books and that of CSSCI, the citation index will offer a brand new perspective for the evaluation of the influence of Chinese social sciences in the past 20 years.
