Searching for publicness: practices of community-building and reflections

(Abstract)

A community is important part of our life and a key link in social structures or social networks. Thus it has direct influence on societal integration and order. Publicness arguably is the foundation on which a community or a society can exist and develop. Under the conditions of market economy, traditional resources should be motivated to guarantee more publicness for communities, with the overall and long-term interests of the population as the basic starting point and goal, and thus to build a new type of future-oriented communities. The thinking about the governance of rural areas in China largely belongs to the category of developmentalism, only (or mainly) emphasizing the economic growth in rural areas, and the construction of rural publicness has been neglected. To build a well-off society in an all-round way, in concrete situations, is how to re-build communities.
