The mission of building Chinese classical studies is to revitalize the foundational spirit of Chinese civilization from a global and historical perspective, respond to contemporary issues, and provide a holistic meaning for human life. The primary research object of Chinese classical studies should be the six canonical classics (Liu Jing) that have undergone classicization, with supplementary attention to classical philosophy (Zixue) and traditional commentarial scholarship (Jingxue). Its scope can be progressively explored and revised through practice. The main research methodology should emphasize philosophical and classical modes of thinking, supported by historical and philological methods, while using hermeneutics to transcend positivist tendencies. Classical studies require philosophical reflection to be reenergized, while philosophy needs the richness of the classics to be expanded. Only through this mutual reinforcement can we achieve meaningful civilizational dialogue and mutual understanding.
