Universal Ethics as Rational Beliefs — Review of The Ethics of Ethical Existentialism
(Abstract)

Sun Xiaoling

In his book The Ethics of Ethical Existentialism, Deng Anqing proposed a universal ethical concept of “Ethical Existentialism,” which opened up a new perspective on universal ethical issues. In constructing his “Ethics of Ethical Existentialism,” Deng borrowed the ontological thought of Heidegger’s existentialism to connect the Way of Heaven and human relations, and sought the ontological foundation of ethics. However, when establishing specific ethical principles, Deng appealed more to the Postconventional Ethics mainly seen in Diskursethik. The question is how to coordinate these two different philosophical resources. Further, can Heidegger’s ontology support the concept of universal ethics based on the spirit of enlightenment?
