Disciplinary Distinctions, Core Issues, and Prospects of Aging Health Research in China
(Abstract)
Lu Jiehua
China’s aging health research currently exhibits a clear division across disciplines. Medical science in the natural sciences and fields such as sociology, demography, economics, gerontology, psychology, and public administration in the social sciences have all explored the topic. Although these explorations have yielded significant achievements, there remain issues such as fragmented research and insufficient interdisciplinary collaboration. China’s aging health research needs to establish a new interdisciplinary research paradigm to address key issues, including the construction of aging health theory, methodological innovation, the definition and measurement of healthy aging, and the development of a comprehensive evaluation index system for aging health. Under the national strategy for a healthy China and the active response to the aging population, future research should pay particular attention to the local, multidimensional, and dynamic characteristics of aging health.
