The development of a discipline depends on the intergenerational inheritance of knowledge, making the intergenerational changes in the development of international relations in China particularly noteworthy. Over the course of its history, five generations of scholars have emerged, each succeeding the other and collectively forming the development history of international relations in China. Their experiences and achievements form a condensed history of the discipline, which has jointly advanced China’s understanding of the international landscape, the in-depth study of international issues, and the formation of the “Chinese school.” Overall, international relations in China has progressed under the leadership of successive generations of scholars, all committed to transcending Western universal values, overcoming Western-centrism, and providing Chinese perspectives and solutions for addressing international issues.
