The Modern View of Chinese National Literature and the Construction of Community Poetics

(Abstract)

Xie Gang and Jiang Zhenlong

The view of national literature involves a conceptual formulation and theoretical construction of the relationship between literature and nation. The perspective of modern Chinese national literature has rich theoretical connotations and dialectical ideological tensions, showing a spatial consciousness of national community with temporality as its exterior, spatiality as its interior, and pluralistic integration with clear boundaries and multi-layered depth. In its discursive practice, the modern view of Chinese national literature is expressed mainly through the national characteristics of its core concepts, which in turn is often expressed through such concepts as folk nature, literature for the common people, and class nature. In the new era of strengthening the consciousness of Chinese national community and a community of shared future for mankind, we should pay attention to the poetics of national community embodied in the modern Chinese view of national literature, fully expounding its pluralistic and open aesthetic community consciousness, dialectical ideological tension, inclusive and symbiotic literary ethics and people-centered essence of national literature and art.
